When to book your cake designer?
I get asked the question frequently… when should I be booking my wedding cake designer?
The answer is as soon as you have decided on a date and venue you can book your cake. A big factor in this is seasonality, peak summer dates get booked up much more quickly than off season dates such as November, February and March. As a wedding cake takes a lot of time and energy, one person can only take on a limited number of weddings in one week to give the cake the attention it deserves, here at Emily’s Mixing Bowl I take on a maximum of three wedding cakes in one week but that will depend on the intricacy of the design, in some cases I will have a large cake to make and then I will solely focus on that cake for the week and take nothing else on.
The best thing to do is to get in touch with your preferred wedding cake supplier as soon as you can and check the date with them. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know exactly what you’d like the cake to look like at this stage, as long as you like the designers work and feel that you would be a good fit together you can pay a deposit to save the date and then have a design meeting 6-9 months before your wedding to talk about the design.
Having said the above there can be unusual circumstances where there’s been a cancellation or similar and a last minute peak date might become available so it’s always worth reaching out and asking.
Are you an organised wedding planner or do you leave things to the last minute? I would love to hear from you in the comments.
